Producer Background

Longview Vineyard, located near Macclesfield in the Adelaide Hills, is renowned for its premium, small-batch wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region. The vineyard's commitment to quality and innovation has made it one of Australia's most awarded wineries since its establishment in 2001.

Vintage Notes

The 2023 vintage was very cool with intermittent rainfall, prolonging the ripening period and enabling excellent fruit flavour development without high sugars. The Longview team worked diligently to ensure good airflow and bunch positioning for even ripening. Although yields were down, the vintage produced exceptionally balanced fruit, promising excellent aging potential.

Vineyard & Winemaking Notes

The Macclesfield Chardonnay 2023 begins with meticulous sorting and selection in high-altitude vineyards, where only the best bunches are handpicked. Using a mix of Entav clones, the fruit is whole-bunch pressed, with the juice racked into French oak puncheons (30% new, 30% second use, 40% third use) for barrel fermentation over 20 days. A portion of the blend undergoes malolactic fermentation and lees contact for approximately three months, with a total of seven months in oak before light filtration and bottling.

Flavour Profile

This Chardonnay offers a distinctive profile of ginger, brine, and lemon, complemented by a luscious mouthfeel and notable length. The balanced acidity and careful oak aging enhance its complexity and depth, making it a sophisticated choice for any wine enthusiast.

Food Pairings

The Macclesfield Chardonnay 2023 pairs beautifully with Tuscan Roast Chicken, enhancing the dish's savory flavours. It also complements seafood, creamy pasta dishes, and soft cheeses, making it a versatile addition to any meal.
