Vintage Notes

The 2021 vintage in the Adelaide Hills was near-perfect, with excellent rainfall in Spring and mild breezes dispersing summer showers. Cooler temperatures and mild Spring conditions ensured optimal flowering, while the long ripening period resulted in exceptionally complex fruit flavour, slow sugar development, and excellent acid retention.

Vineyard & Winemaking Notes

The Yakka Shiraz is sourced from five distinct north-facing blocks on the Longview estate. The hardy Shiraz variety thrives in the vineyard’s tough, rocky soils. Hand harvesting began on 15th March at daybreak, with the fruit chilled overnight to preserve flavour. After being crushed and de-stemmed into open fermenters with a small percentage of whole berries, the wine undergoes a long, cool ferment with three pump-overs per day. It is then pressed, settled, and racked into a mix of new and old puncheons and hogsheads for up to 12 months.
